Who may be a Member of MSERA?
Any person who supports the purposes of MSERA is eligible for membership upon payment of dues. Membership is open to eligible individuals without restriction to any defined geographic region.
Who are Members of MSERA?
While a majority of the members are from higher education institutions, other members are from public education agencies and other educationally oriented entities. Two persons, one from a local education agency and one from a state education agency, serve on the Board to promote membership among persons from these agencies.
Who Operates MSERA?
The Association is governed by the Board of Officers and Directors elected by the membership at the Annual Meeting. The four Officers are the President, Vice President/President-Elect, and the Past President, who serve one-year terms, and the Secretary-Treasurer, who serves a two-year term. (The Secretary-Treasurer may serve an unlimited member of terms.) The 12 Directors consist of 6 members at large elected for two-year terms in even-numbered years. The Executive Secretary of MSERA is appointed by the Board and is an ex officio, non-voting member of the Board. In addition, the President appoints annually an editor of a journal/bulletin, an editor of the Proceedings, and numerous committees that involve dozens of members in MSERA.
What Services Does MSERA Offer Its Members?
The Association publishes annually four issues of the Researcher (a newsletter) and Research in the Schools (a refereed journal). Each member also receives a Directory of MSERA members as one of the issues of the Researcher. MSERA sponsors an Annual Meeting in November that has 175-200+ presentations (these meetings are held in different cities throughout the region). Two research awards are given at each Annual Meeting for the outstanding paper and the outstanding thesis/dissertation. Each award consists of a plaque and a monetary award. An award for service and contributions to MSERA, the Bowman award, is presented annually in the form of a plaque. MSERA maintains archives as a source of papers previously presented at each MSERA Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting is recognized by ERIC, and MSERA sends ERIC papers presented at this event. MSERA also maintains a web site at www.msera.org.
Is MSERA Affiliated with the American Educational Research Association?
Although an affiliate relationship does not exist, MSERA is a charter member of the AERA Special Interest Group: State and Regional Educational Research Associations. Membership in the special Interest Group permits the presentation of the outstanding paper from the previous year's MSERA Annual Meeting. MSERA maintains affiliation with the Louisiana Education Research Association.
