Dr. Msengi is an award-winning educator, author, mentor, and survivor of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. She speaks nationally and internationally on topics including faith and resilience, multicultural and global education, mentoring, and the integration of refugees and immigrants.
Dr. Msengi has received numerous accolades for her leadership and community service, including the prestigious Echoing Green Fellowship, the New Voices Fellowship funded by the Ford Foundation, and the Outstanding American by Choice Award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
She serves as a faculty member in the Center for Doctoral Studies in Educational Leadership at Lamar University, where she received the inaugural Faculty Mentor of the Year Award. Her most recent work, Spared: Escaping Genocide in Rwanda and Finding a Home in America, is a powerful account of survival, healing, and hope.
